On the second day GOD made an expanse between the waters on the earth. The expanse was called heaven. The waters above the expanse had to be lighter than air to stay up there. That would be water in the form of clouds or fog that would not fall to the earth. That cloud could have been one or several miles thick. We know that the gamma rays from the sun are the major cause of aging in humans and that cloud would completely blot out those rays.
