Did you know that Crandall was once a swamp? Would you journey to church services in an ox cart?

by DON THEMER

In 1925, the Crandall Times newspaper printed some reminiscences of Ophelia Daugherty Pike, daughter of Sam Daugherty and granddaughter of Reverend William Daugherty. This “early lady” of the Forney area was born and reared two miles from the present town of Crandall and about ten miles south of Forney. An early school/church building was built of split logs on her “home place.”
