Last week’s article detailed the 1959 regular football season of the District Champion Forney Jackrabbits and promised to return with play-off and honors results. So, here it is! Again, information comes from Don Montgomery’s scrapbook, Forney Messenger articles, Jackrabbit Annuals, and my memory. On Friday night, November 20, at 8:00 p. m. in Van’s stadium, the Forney Jackrabbits met the Hawkins Hawks for the area’s Class “A” Bi-District Championship. (This was “back in the days” when only one team from each district qualified to move on into the State Play-offs.) Both teams had employed the “split-T” offense and relied upon speed during the year, and both teams were of similar size, with Forney just a little heavier. Despite these similarities, Forney had scored almost twice as many points (302-127) during the season and allowed only about half as many!
