Williams verdict could be soon

Prosecution, defense both rest on Wednesday

The prosecution and the defense in the Eric Williams murder trial both rested their cases Wednesday afternoon, apparently with little testimony from the defense.

Williams is being tried in Rockwall in the Easter weekend, 2013 shooting death of Cynthia McLelland, wife of Kaufman County DA Mike McLelland. A verdict could be reached in the case as early as Thursday, Dec. 4.

The prosecution laid out what they claimed would be “overwhelming” evidence against defendant McWilliams. If Williams is convicted, he could receive the death penalty.
