The Messenger looks back at 2016

The year 2016 had a relatively placid beginning. The lead story on page 1 of our Jan. 7, 2016 issue was an announcement that the American Pickers would be filming in Texas. The American Pickers is a popular series that explores “antique picking” o the History Channel. Filming of segments of the show across Texas was set for early February.

A secondary front-page story Jan. 7 was a story revealing that on Jan. 3 a Forney police officer,, C. Prewitt, had shot one of the parties in a domestic dispute, Prewitt shot Cody Westberry, 24. of Forney after Westberry approached Prewit’s squad car in a threatening manner. The incident was immediately put under investigation by the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Rangers. Westberry’s injuries were not life-threatening.

Just in case you missed an earlier announcement, the Forney High School varsity drill team, the Forney High-steppers will appear in the 2017 Rose Parade Monday morning, Jan. 2, 2017.
