Whatever became of’ the girl next door?

My family moved to Floresville, Texas from Hondo just as I was going into the third grade. My first day of school was in a wooden two-classroom building shared by class 3A and 3B of Floresville Elementary. The structure was a relic from WW II that our school had acquired from a base in San Antonio just to the north.
