Laymen’s Corner

This chapter gives the account of Cain and Abel. Note that Cain was the first person born on the earth and he was called evil and of that wicked one. Ref. 1st John 3: 12. We don’t know all the details but it may be noteworthy that Cain was the first born after Adam and Eve sinned and rebelled against GOD. Cain was a farmer and Abel was a rancher. Adam had to be their teacher and tell them about bringing sacrifices to GOD from their labors. Cain brought the fruits of the ground and Abel brought livestock from his flock. Some Bible scholars believe the reason Cain was not accepted and Abel was, a “blood” sacrifice was needed to cover their sins. Personally, I don’t believe that was the case. I believe Cain actually did not have any regard for GOD or the sacrifice. it was just what he was told to do.
