Ask the Counselor . . .

Dear Susan:
My daughters (12 & 15) are friends with the kids next door (girl 11, boy 13). Lately my girls have been coming to me and asking if the neighbor kids can stay for dinner. They tell me that there is not enough food in their house and they sometimes go to bed hungry. Both kids seem to be at a healthy weight. I work a lot and don’t really know the parents very well, but they both have jobs. Their cars are newer than mine and they order in pizza regularly. I don’t like to think that people are going hungry right on my own street, but I also don’t want to be scammed. I’m a single parent and on a strict budget. What should I do? Signed: Worried Mom
