A boy’s bicycle trip from Hayden Eudy’s house to Warren Hatley’s house following Bois d’Arc Street

By DON THEMER

My first bicycle was a big, heavy 38” tire-sized “machine” that my Dad purchased second-hand from Luke Shipley, who had stored it in his garage for several years after his son, Larry, had passed the age of using it for transportation/recreation. Dad had it “fixed up” mechanically, and then he and I, mostly he, re-painted it dark blue with some red finishing touches. It was a beauty, and way too big for a firstgrader to reach the pedals.
