Why is the future county-wide 9-1-1 dispatch/EOC center necessary?

The 3-2 vote by the Kaufman County Commissioners Court Monday, Feb. 9 to delay approval of a financing method to finish the county’s new 9-1-1 dispatch system came as a surprise to a lot of Kaufman County residents. In the wake of the vote, we contacted County Judge Bruce Wood and asked him to meet with us to do an indepth feature story about the historical background and purpose of the center. We want to stress at the outset that the Commissioners have not voted against the project. They only delayed it in order to hold a workshop on the proposed purchase of the dispatch equipment. The workshop is set this Friday, Feb. 20.
