Three Rights Make a Left

When it comes to food I have two great loves: Mexican food and Bar B Que. I know I share that culinary affection with a lot of you, too. The reason I know for sure goes back to 2005. When Hurricane Katrina hit we had 300 evacuees from New Orleans who came to Forney straight from the Superdome. I was a County Commissioner at the time and pitched in to help with the shelter at the Old First Baptist Church building on Bois d’Arc. Virtually every church in Forney got into the rotation of feeding our guests and did an incredible job. One day I came in and found myself surrounded with a half dozen of our Louisiana friends. They asked to talk to me in private. So we went into a classroom and they closed the door behind us. Once we were alone the leader of the delegation said: “We appreciate everything y’all have done for us and don’t want to seem ungrateful... but do y’all eat BBQ and Mexican Food every meal?” Of course I had to answer “Pretty much.” Sometimes we don’t think about it, but we love Mexican food and BBQ.
