When a person becomes a Christian by faith in Jesus Christ, they begin training in GOD’S word and are given some service to do for GOD while living on this earth. That service (spiritual works) will vary from person to person, but all our works must be done (built) on the same foundation which is Jesus Christ and His finished works He did while on this earth. The works are described in the NT BIBLE BOOK OF 1st COR. 3:10-15. The first three listed are spiritual GOLD, SILVER AND PRECIOUSSTONES which can pass through the fire and not be burned up. The next three are of the earth, wood, hay, and stubble and do burn up if they are put into the fire. When a Christian builds on this foundation with any of the first three, they will receive a reward from GOD Himself. When a Christian builds on this foundation with any of the last three, all their works will be burned up and not remembered at all in Heaven. The person will be saved but will come into GOD’S presence empty handed.
