HOPPIN’ AROUND

The title of this week’s column is derived from two phrases that are signature sentences from The Little Engine That Could, a children’s story most of us heard when we were young. If you haven’t heard or read it, you still may know about it, because it’s a classic. The story concerns the efforts of a train engine to get some toys “over the mountain”. When the engine breaks down, only a little blue engine offers to take the toys to their destination. At first, the little engine isn’t sure he can make it, but he’s willing to persevere and as he climbs the mountain he keeps saying, “I think I can, I think I can, I think I can . . .” Once he gets over the summit and starts down the other side, he shouts triumphantly, “I thought I could! I thought I could! I thought I could!”
