Neither Europe —nor America— should yield to terrorism

On Tuesday, two masked gunmen shot 12 people to death inside a magazine office in Paris, France. In 2011, the magazine was fire-bombed after it published a lampoon regarding the Muslim prophet Mohammed. The 2011 attack was attributed to Islamic militants who tried to shut the paper down. Fortunately, they failed. France recognizes press freedom and freedom of expression in much the same way the U. S. does. As far as I know, it’s not illegal under French law to publish any kind of satire, any more than it would be in this country.
