Last week, I was made aware of a federal fee that is slowly choking off the supply of special medical compounds that are needed by a small, but often very ill, group of Americans. I got my first hint of the problem when I phoned in an order two weeks ago for a special compound eye drop I’ve been using for years. The compounding lab where I get the eye drop said they wouldn’t be able to fill another refill order for three to four weeks because they were undergoing “testing.” Fortunately, I found a bottle I’d forgotten I had.
