Gerald Eugene Scott

On the morning of June28, 2015, after battling the effects of diabetes and kidney  failure, Gerald Eugene Scott went home to be with his Lord Jesus Christ. Atthe time of his death, Gerald was surrounded by his loving family in his earthly home in Poetry, Texas. Gerald was born in Chickasha, Oklahoma on October 10, 1943 to Augustine Jenkins Scott and Jackie Lee Scott. He grew up in Cordell, Oklahoma and graduated from Cordell High School in 1961. While in High School, he played football and basketball andplayed French horn in the  high school band. He alsoserved as drum major of  the marching band. Gerald met the love ofhis life, Rita Gay Cook, in February 1962, when they were both working at the McLellan’s Variety Store in Clinton, Oklahoma. Following a whirlwind romance, Gerald and Rita were married on November 16, 1962. In October 1962, Gerald joined the Oklahoma National Guard and served honorably for eight years.The family moved to Dallas,Texas from El Reno, Oklahoma in 1965 when Gerald was promoted to St ore Manager for TG&Y at the White Rock North store. In March 1968, Gerald left retail to become a StateFarm Insurance Agent. He  moved his agency to Forney, Texas in 1980, where he served the community until his retirement at theend of 2005. 1968 proved to be a momentous year. In the fall of that year, Gerald surrendered his life to Jesus  hrist as his Lord and Savior. Later, he served as a Deacon at Casa View Baptist Church in Dallas,Texas; Emmanuel Baptist Church in Terrell, Texas;  and Poetry Baptist Church in Poetry, Texas. Gerald also served as Commissioner of the White Rock Churches Athletic Association in Dallas and both the Terrell Church VolleyballLeague and Terrell Church Softball League. He was heavily involved in the Terrell Band Parents organization, serving two terms as President and providing the public address announcements for the Fighting Tiger Band and Terrell Tigerettes halftime per formances for several years. He later volunteered as color commentator for both the Terrell High School Foot ball and Basketball game radio broadcasts. Gerald loved to travel. Over the years, he and Rita visited much of the United States, Monaco, Canada, Germany, Bermuda,France, Italy, and Ireland. They also enjoyed cruising in the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, Northeastern USA and Canada coastline and Alaska. Gerald was preceded in death by his Father, Jack; his Mother, Augustine; his Stepmother, Margie; and his brother, Donald Scott. He is sur vived by his devoted wife, Rita of Poetry, Texas; his loving children, daughter Mitzi Scott Daniel (Carl) of Terrell, Texas and sons, Michael Scott (Julie) of Keller, Texas and Marty Scott (Jody) of Forney, Texas; his brother, Rick Scott (Kathy) of Piedmont, Oklahoma; sixteen grandchildren; six greatgrandchildren and many other family members.Visitation will be at Anderson- Clayton Funeral Home at 301 West Nash, Terrell, Texas on Thursday July 2, 2015 from 6-8 p.m. A celebration of Gerald’s life will be held in the Family Life Center at Poetry Baptist Church, 19311 FM 986,Terrell, Texas on Friday July 3, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. Lunch will be provided immediately following the service.
