Remembering a date most of us wish we could forget
with Cary.
Thirteen years before the cover date on this issue of the Messenger, Judy and I were getting ready to attend the annual fall convention of the National Newspaper Association, to be held that year in Milwaukee. We never got there. It was Sept. 11, 2001, the day Americans have come to call 9/11 - and a date that has taken its place alongside Dec. 7, 1941 as a day of infamy for the United States. Within possibly as little as an hour after the terrorist attacks on New York City’s Twin Towers and the Pentagon, air travel across the country was on lockdown.
