Helen Josephine (Lawson) Smith

Helen Josephine (Lawson) Smith, 84, passed away April 8 , 2016, in Kaufman, Texas. Helen was born September 28, 1931, in McLendon-Chisolm, Texas to Lem and Mary (Wickliffe) Burnside. Helen married Kenneth Lawson on September 10, 1949, and they enjoyed 27 years together before his death. She married John C. Smith on October 29, 1977. She devoted her life to serving others whether it be in the home or at the work place. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, taking care of animals, and spending lots of time with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband J.C.; son Mike Lawson and his wife Terri; daughters Amy Baber and husband Gil, Angie Engledow and husband Archie, and Carloyn Bayliss and husband Raymond; she was blessed with eleven grandchildren, Brandi Ashford and husband Jason, Kim Newsom and husband Steve, Elizabeth Johnson and husband Mike, Amie Aguilar and husband Mike, Rachel Johnson and husband Jonathan, Jeremy Lawson, Michael Lawson, Archie Engledow and wife Desiree, Lauren Quarrington and husband Matthew, Riley Lawson and Peyton Baber; and 15 great-grandchildren, Faith, Jonathan, Amber, Jaron, Lillie, Weston, Stella, Connor, Christopher, Daniel, Meagan, Kaden, Addison, Hagen and Skylar; and one brother L.A. Burnside and wife Norma. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her son Douglas Lawson and two siblings, Dorothy Green and Wayne Burnside. Services will be held at Anderson-Clayton Funeral Home in Terrell, TX at 10:00 am on Wednesday, April 13, 2016. Interment will be immediately following at Hillcrest Cemetery in Forney, TX.
