Three Rights Make a Left

What is wrong with Forney’s ”Old Glory”

by KEN LEONARD.

Last week I was surfing on the Internet and stumbled across one of the most moving performances of “The Star Spangled Banner” that I have ever heard. There are several videos on YouTube where participants captured the event on cell phones. The song is sung by about a thousand high school students standing on balconies and in the courtyard of an eighteen story hotel. The students were there for a choir competition and included choruses from all over the state of Kentucky. As it turns out, the event is an annual tradition and not a spontaneous, one-time event. Whichever video you watch, the performance is absolutely moving. It is one of the best acapella performances I have ever heard and trust me, I have heard a lot. It gives you the sense that if high school students can demonstrate that much pride and patriotism there is hope for our country.
