Genesis Chapter 14 gives the account of Abram’s rescue of Lot his nephew. After Abram and Lot split up and went different ways, Lot moved to the city of Sodom. Abram moved to Hebron and built an altar to the Lord. Here we can see the result of Lot’s choice to choose his way by eyesight instead of by faith. In the process of time the kings around Sodom and Gomorrah who paid tribute to them rebelled and made war with them. The kings of Sodom and Gomorrah were defeated and Lot was taken prisoner along with all of his processions. One person escaped and told Abram his nephew Lot had been taken by those kings. Abram quickly took 318 servants born in his house and caught up with the kings and their army. GOD gave them into Abram’s hand and he defeated them and took back all the hostages and their belongings. We can see several things here to think about. First, Abram showed his faith by taking his servants and defeated an army. Second, he showed the bond between Christians even when one is in the wrong. Third, he was not greedy of the king’s reward they offered him.
