HOPPIN’ AROUND

He’s turned 70 —but we still need Smokey the Bear

with Cary.

Last Saturday, Smokey the Bear turned 70. And he hasn’t aged a bit. He’s still the iconic smoke-sniffing mascot of everyone who has an interest in preventing forest fires. And that’s probably just about all of us. How well I remember the song about Smokey! I learned it, I think, in fourth grade:
Smokey, the Bear
Smokey, the Bear
Prowlin’ and a-growlin’
and a-sniffin’ at the air.
He can find a fire
Before it starts to flame.
That’s why they call him Smokey,
That is how he got his name.
