More than a dayat the races
In my early years of life my dad was an airplane mechanic. We lived in Hondo, Texas and he worked at the old Army airfield there that trained as many as 1,800 navigators during WWII but by the 1960s was pretty much a private airfield. Often he would work two jobs to make ends meet, but when race season came around he would follow the race on the radio. I remember he had a magnetic board and on little magnets he had the names of every driver. During the race he would move the pieces to reflect where they were in the race. On the pieces were names like the Bobby Unser and AJ Foyt. He would explain what was going on to me and I can’t remember a single thing he said. I just remember how great it was to spend time with my dad.
