HOPPIN’ AROUND

“They are not like us.” Those five words express the thought that undergirds every form of intolerance, from religious bigotry to racism to the kind of hatred that inspired a 29-year-old follower of ISIS to fatally gun down 50 people at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida last weekend. It’s one thing to reject a position or lifestyle with which one disagrees or believes is wrong. It’s quite another matter to translate disagreement into coldblooded murder.
