Sarah Pinson Harp

Born on September 7, 1938 in Forney, Texas to Clem and Mary Alice Pinson. Clem lived his whole life on the Pinson farm just north of Forney that was established by his parents In the 1800’s. Sarah attended elementary and high school in Forney. She was a cheerleader in high school. She went on to attain a BS degree at Texas Tech in Lubbock and later, her masters degree at TWU in Denton. Sarah taught elementary grades in several school districts including Dallas, Mesquite, San Francisco, and under contract to the United Air Force, taught as a civilian school teacher in France and Porta Rico. She retired after her long career from the Mesquite school system. Sarah met her husband, Leon Harp at their Sunday school class at Highland Park Presbyterian Church after barely missing him on more than one occasion. He was a senior at Texas Tech when she was a freshman Obituaries and he was based at the Presidio of San Francisco serving his two years in the army while she was a teacher in a San Francisco school only a few blocks away. They were married and lived happily in Mesquite and in Plano. Among her many interests was the histor y of her home town, Forney. She was a member of the Forney Historic Preservation League and served as its president and board member for many years. She worked diligently on creating The Spellman Museum of Forney History that should soon be open to the public. Sarah was a life-long Christian. She was a member of the Forney First Presbyterian until she and Leon moved to Plano and moved their membership to the Christ United Methodist in Plano. Sarah left this earth at about 6:45 pm on Aug. 7, 2016 to be with God. She left behind her husband, Leon, her step-son, Steven, her step-daughter, Kathy, and her niece Kay, and her children and nephews, and many good friends. She will certainly be missed. A memorial service is scheduled at New Hope Funeral Home at 10:00 am on Thursday, 08-25-2016. No flowers are requested. Instead, if you like, small donations to the Forney Historic Preservation League will be appreciated.
