Why reducing the state sales tax is not a good idea
with Cary’
This past week, I’ve become aware of a proposal in the Texas Legislature to reduce the state sales tax. Um—not a good idea. The way I understand it, under the proposal the state’s portion of receipts from the tax would be reduced from 6.25% to 5.95%. The reduction would not affect city sales taxes, though. Currently,the City of Forney levies a 2% tax on local sales—1% for the city, 0.5% for the Forney Economic Development Corporation, and 0.5% for property tax reduction.
