Traffic stops: Things you should know

By Cary

The third session in the Forney Police Department’s Citizens’ Police Academy took place Mar. 14. This one was all about patrol and traffic stops and it provided information I believe it would be a good idea to pass along to our readers.

The experience a motorist has when being pulled over by the police can be disconcerting: the flashing red and blue lights in your rear view window and mirror, sometimes accompanied by a siren; the nervous wait while the officer walks to the driverside window; the suspense of waiting to find out why you were stopped. I’ll tell you right now—I’ve never been guilty of anything other than a minor traffic violation, but I get nervous during a traffic stop, just the same. Once I got so nervous I couldn’t immediately locate my insurance information! But police are prepared for that; they see it all the time.
